MCH’s Pre-Primary Program is for children who turn three years old between September 1 and March 1.
This is a period of spectacularly rapid development. Children are fascinated by the world around them, and their learning experiences at MCH lay the foundation for future academic success. Our Pre-Primary Program is designed to address the specific needs of children who are between a toddler and preschooler. The Pre-Primary curriculum follows our Primary program, and places emphasis on the developmental needs of these younger children. In keeping with the Children’s house philosophy, in Pre-Primary we strive to create a homelike environment where developing a child’s independence and setting a foundation is the main focus.
Curriculum Areas include:
- Practical Life activities build confidence and independence through the development of self-care skills, concentration, coordination, fine motor, and a sense of order—all for later learning.
- Sensorial, hands-on materials that develop the senses initiate critical thinking skills, preparing students for future challenges in mathematics, science, and language.
- Language nurtures a love of language with manipulatives that build a deep understanding of the fundamental components of reading/writing. The environment is infused with books and a spirit of individual expression.
- Geography, Science & Cultural Studies capture the curiosity of students excited to explore their world.
- Mathematics – from simple to complex, concrete to abstract, unique Montessori materials engage children in learning fundamental concepts that prepare them to approach learning with a Mathematical Mind.
- Arts & Activities including Music, Art, Movement, enrich each learning environment with vibrancy and celebrate the diversity of ways people contribute to the world.
